Principal's Message

North Kitsap School District is pleased to announce that Michael Bliss, Assistant Principal at North Kitsap High School, has accepted the position of Principal at Suquamish Elementary beginning July 1, 2020. As we shared earlier this month, Ms. Lyon will be Director of Elementary Education starting in the 2020-2021 school year.  Mr. Bliss and Ms. Lyon will be working closely over the next few months to ensure a smooth transition that continues the incredible work at Suquamish Elementary.

Mr. Bliss is looking forward to meeting each of the students and their families, staff, and the greater Suquamish community. “I am beyond grateful to have this opportunity to begin a new chapter with you all at Suquamish Elementary,” he shared. Mr. Bliss began his teaching career ten years ago in La Conner. He is thrilled to work with a Sovereign Nation once again. “I have much respect for the Native American culture, and I’m looking forward to building relationships and doing meaningful work with the Suquamish Nation.” His goal is to set up times to meet students, families, staff, Suquamish Tribal members, and the greater community in the near future.

Superintendent Evans shared that Mr. Bliss has made a significant impact at North Kitsap High School in a very short period of time. “He established positive, meaningful relationships with students, families and staff, and these relationships helped open the door to meaningful dialogue about academic improvement for students,” she shared.  Dr. Evans is proud of the excellent work in literacy and the AVID program that the staff at Suquamish Elementary staff has done and is looking forward to seeing these efforts continue to thrive with the leadership and partnership of Mr. Bliss.
